Ancient Chinese were said to be the first people who started the use of greeting cards to exchange goodwill to celebrate Chinese New Year. Egyptians also used papyrus scrolls to express their greetings.

Today’s fast paced lifestyle, many ways of sending greetings are developed for convenience—time and money respectively. These high technology ways of expressing feelings include text messaging (SMS), fax message, cellphone or telephone call, e-mails. But traditional greeting cards canl never go out of style for various reasons. First, the total packaging of greeting card truly reflect your feelings. Second, variety of designs are available to choose from and personal penmanship adds warmth to the words written in the card. In fact, in United Kingdom alone, an estimated one billion pounds are spent every year on greeting cards. One proof that printed greeting cards are still preferred until today’s modern living is the number of cards sent through courier services every December.

Two of the largest producers of greeting cards are Hallmark cards and American Greetings. Hand painted greeting card is probably the most popular type because it is unique. Another type of greeting card is printed with the use of offset printing machines.
